History as a Custom Home Builder
CHS was founded by Scott Kahle, and is a custom home builder servicing the Hudson Valley, NY. Scott was formerly an owner and founder of K-3 Builders, a custom home builder and general contractor involved with residential construction of custom homes throughout the upper Hudson Valley since 1985. “We built a lot of log, modular and traditional site-built houses as well as extensive renovations, additions, and remodeling.”
Today, Columbia Home Solutions is focused on building the finest modular homes utilizing the highest building standards and practices. Scott’s vast experience in construction of custom homes and remodeling enables him to see your dream home project through, from start to finish. You may recognize K-3 Builders
“K-3 Builders of Fine Homes” was originally comprised of brothers Ed, Scott and father Bill Kahle. Originating approx. 1985, we built many custom homes in the Hudson Valley. New home construction types ranged from Log Homes, Modular Homes and traditional “site-built” homes. We strived to gain and maintain a great reputation for home construction, and succeeded in that endeavor for nearly 25 years.
In the mid 2000’s with the downturn in the housing market and the overall economy in general, we idled down. One of our modular manufacturers closed shop. Brother Ed decided to go another direction. In recent years, the housing market has picked back up and I, (Scott) have decided to restart the business as a custom modular home builder.
Forming a new name, “Columbia Home Solutions” and Primarily on modular homes construction, I am ready to serve you with your new home construction needs. With extensive experience in the construction process dating back to approx. 1985, I can guide you through the process from excavation to completion and anything in between.

There are many benefits to using modular construction:
- Built in a Climate Controlled Environment. – This means less delays due to inclement weather. It also means better quality because of weather exposure to materials as well as workers. When workers are cold or wet, they don’t perform as well and their own quality standards get compromised. (I know this from experience!) Weather damage can impact the overall quality of the home before construction is even completed.
- Timing – Site work, such as excavation and foundation, can be completed while the house is being constructed at the factory, all at the same time. This speeds up the overall construction process.
- Cost – Modular home construction offers efficiencies not attainable in the field. The factory setting eliminates the need for scaffolding and ladders, the time and effort it takes workers to climb up and down and, not to mention all the time it takes to set it up and tear down, over and over. The entire process is more methodical and quality controlled.
